About Me
I learned to sew using my mom’s Singer Treadle sewing machine. As I grew older she allowed me to use her prized Bernina 830 Record! I have many happy memories as a child and adult spending time with mom discussing our sewing projects, fabric shopping, and perusing pattern catalogues together. What I gained through my mother is something I very much enjoy sharing with others.
One of my first purchases after beginning my nursing career was a sewing machine and serger. I started out with scrub tops but my interests changed when I attended a corset class taught by Beverly Johnson, The Fairy Bra Mother, at the Saskatchewan Stitches Conference. Bra-making classes, professional level classes in fitting, swimwear, corsetry, and bra-making teacher training followed.
A talented seamstress for a mother, a love of vintage fashion, and years of ballet training set the stage for my initial sewing pursuits. I hung up my ballet slippers years ago and never thought I would find a physical activity to rival it. Thanks to our son’s involvement in the Chinese Martial Art of Wushu, I discovered wushu and Chen-style Taiji. He has developed into a high-level competitive athlete and assists with coaching in the wushu program. I continue to stay active with wushu and Taiji and coach introductory level Taiji.
My happy place remains sewing in my home studio while listening to techno.
